At The Skin Studio, we believe that looking after your skin is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. It is an act of self love.

There are many aspects that can play a role in this self care, however we would like to discuss one of the basics: your skincare routine.

The starting point to creating a great skincare routine for yourself is understanding your skin. Is your skin oily, dry, sensitive or a mixture? Understanding this allows you to select the right products for your skin. A consult with a skin specialist can also help you understand your skin type if you are unsure.

Once you are aware of your skin type, you can select products with ingredients that will give your skin what you need. You can use these products in your daily routine.

Your routine can be simple, or complex, depending on your lifestyle, budget and what your skin needs are. In general, a simple routine would include cleansing, toning, moisturizer and most importantly, adding your SPF! To add little more to this routine you might include a serum after toning, and maybe a once a week at home mask or exfoliation product.

Sunscreen is never a product to skimp on. It is vital to protecting your skin from developing dark marks and pigmentation. A good at home exfoliator is also a great product to include in your routine as it will ensure the top layer of dead skin cells is regularly removed, thus allowing your important skincare ingredients from your products (and especially your serums) to penetrate properly into your skin.

Top quality products are obviously a top priority in your skincare ritual, but it is important to remember that your lifestyle also plays an important part. Ensuring you are properly hydrated, nourished and getting enough rest also contribute to your self care and skin health. In our busy lives, making sure we have a balance of all of these factors is not always possible, and that is ok. What is important is to include these aspects as much as if possible for you.

Once you have established your routine and are aware of your lifestyle factors, there are exciting additions to add to your self-care practice – these are skin treatments, supplements and aesthetic treatments. Again, what you decide to do will depend on your skin needs, your lifestyle and your budget. But let us be honest, is there anything more rewarding than that beautiful glow after a hydrafacial, or a series of microneedling treatments? Your skin feels and looks healthy, fresh and vibrant! Or the buzz you feel after taking your daily collagen supplements, knowing your skin is thanking you! Or how about that feeling knowing you are healing your skin from deep within after a course of skin booster treatments?

Everyone’s skin care journey is unique, we recognize that. We love helping our clients find their way to their own skincare routine, one that is sustainable for them, meets theirs needs and makes them feel absolutely wonderful in their skin.

Your skin is more than just a surface – it is a reflection of your inner vitality. Our skin, the largest organ in the body, is a barrier between our bodies and the outside world and it can take a beating in doing its job. In this post we will share a little about skin treatments and how they can be a real treat for your skin!

If you are new to skin treatments, welcome! It is a very exciting journey to embark on. It can also be a little overwhelming. Our skin specialists always discuss your skin concerns and look at your skin before recommending skin treatments, so you know you are in good hands, and will be receiving a treatment that is suited to your skin type, your budget and your skin goals!

Let us break down a couple of popular treatments:

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels are wonderful for rejuvenating the skin! They involve applying a solution to the skin which stimulates exfoliation and new skin cell generation. We have many different types of peels, from those that help with pigmentation, acne to those that improve signs of aging like fine lines, large pores and uneven skin tone. There can be a couple of days of downtime, depending on the type of peel that you select and how deeply it penetrates the skin. After a deeper peel, we recommend using a barrier cream while your skin heals and rejuvenates. A barrier cream is a simple cream with no active ingredients that supports skin healing. Chemical peels do wonders for improving skin texture, evening out skin tone and reducing fine lines.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL):

IPL therapy utilizes pulses of light energy to target various skin concerns such as sun damage, pigmentation, and vascular lesions. The light energy penetrates the targeted skin cells, causing damage to the target cells. The skin cells then turn brown and eventually flake off. IPL therapy is useful for treating age spots, freckles, and redness, resulting in a more even complexion and rejuvenated skin texture.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU):

HIFU technology delivers focused ultrasound energy deep into the skin’s layers, stimulating collagen production and tightening loose or sagging skin. This non-invasive treatment is particularly effective for lifting and sculpting areas prone to skin laxity, such as the jowls, neck, and brows. It is no wonder this treatment is known as the non-surgical facelift!

Radiofrequency Microneedling:

Combining the benefits of microneedling with radiofrequency energy, this advanced treatment targets multiple layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. Radiofrequency microneedling is ideal for reducing the appearance of acne scars, wrinkles, and enlarged pores, resulting in smoother, firmer skin with minimal downtime.

Each of these treatments offers unique benefits, so it is important to consult with a skin specialist in determining what treatment would be best for you. By incorporating these advanced skincare treatments into your routine, you can unlock the full potential of your skin and achieve a radiant, youthful complexion that reflects your inner vitality.

What is the Cosmelan Peel?

The Cosmelan Peel, developed by Mesoestetic, is a deep peeling system designed to target pigmentation and melasma. It is a medical grade peel: the skin will noticeably peel off the face. You are put on review so that you are constantly tracked and supported throughout the process. The whole process takes 6 – 12 months, so it is definitely for the committed!

Understanding the Cosmelan Peel

Developed by Mesoestetic, a renowned pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology, the Cosmelan Peel is a professional depigmentation treatment designed to target and reduce skin discoloration. Unlike traditional peels, which primarily focus on exfoliation, it goes beyond surface-level concerns to address pigmentation issues at their root.

How Does the Treatment Work?

The Cosmelan Peel harnesses the power of potent ingredients, including azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, and arbutin, to inhibit the production of melanin in the skin. By suppressing melanin synthesis, the peel effectively fades existing dark spots while preventing the formation of new ones. This dual-action approach ensures comprehensive depigmentation results, leaving the skin visibly brighter and more even-toned. The peel is safe and effective for all skin types and tones, which makes it really unique.

The Treatment Process:

The peel is typically administered in two stages: the in-clinic application of the peel followed by a customized at-home skincare regimen. During the initial session, a skin expert will carefully apply the mud-like solution to the skin, ensuring even coverage. The patient will be informed to leave the mud-like solution on for a number of hours. Patients may experience a mild tingling sensation whist the solution is on the skin. The at home regime requires you to apply a small amount of peel on daily for a number of days. You are put on review during this process so that we have constant feedback on your skin and the developments.

The Cosmelan Peel is definitely for those who can commit to the long time frame of the process. However, the results of this treatment are truly remarkable, especially for those dealing with melasma and pigmentation which is renowned for being very difficult to treat.
